Six Stories of Unity and Action

1. Transforming Health in Phaphazela Village, Vhembe District, Limpopo

In June, Phaphazela Village in Vhembe, Limpopo, hosted a dynamic TB Awareness Campaign, bringing together THINK South Africa, Wits RHI, the Department of Health, and other key partners. Supported by the Soul City Institute, this event provided essential health services such as HIV testing and TB screening. Collaborative efforts with organisations like CHoiCe Trust and LoveLife exemplified a united front in tackling public health challenges. The community’s commitment was evident, with strong support from the Acting Mayor and local stakeholders.

2. Inspiring Change: Community Dialogue in Pieter Swartz, Mangaung

On July 4th, a collaborative community dialogue took place in Pieter Swartz, Mangaung, addressing critical issues such as TB and HIV prevention, gender-based violence (GBV), teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and mental health. THINK South Africa worked alongside the Free State Department of Health and the Africa Substance Use Disorder Management Clinic to empower community members and leaders. The event provided essential healthcare services and fostered discussions on promoting health and safety.

3. Mandela Day Initiative: Making an Impact in Mangaung

In honour of Mandela Day, THINKers in Mangaung engaged in a purposeful initiative, preparing sandwiches and tea for informal workers and visiting a family managing their TB journey. By providing groceries, clothing, and blankets, the team embodied the spirit of compassion and unity. This initiative highlighted the significance of small acts of kindness and their lasting impact on the community.

4. United for Good: THINK Vhembe Partners with Louis Trichardt Hospital

THINK Vhembe collaborated with Louis Trichardt Hospital for a Mandela Day initiative that demonstrated the power of teamwork. The event involved providing refreshments for the hospital’s task team and distributing food parcels to local families in Tshikota. Supported by the Makhado Municipality and the Department of Correctional Services, this effort brought smiles and hope to those in need, honouring Madiba’s legacy of service.

5. Supporting Families: THINK Fezile Dabi’s Mandela Day Efforts

For Mandela Day, Team THINK Fezile Dabi focused on supporting a family living in challenging conditions. Earlier this year, an Outreach Officer met a man and his family of five during a TB awareness and testing initiative. Moved by their harsh circumstances, the team decided to step in with much-needed support. They delivered groceries and provided assistance to help improve the family’s immediate living conditions and address long-term health needs. Their compassionate efforts exemplified the spirit of Mandela Day, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they helped.

6. Mandela Day Food Drive: A Team THINK Hillcrest Initiative

In honour of Mandela Day and the spirit of Ubuntu, Team THINK Hillcrest led a food drive to assist a family facing significant challenges in the heart of Inanda. The Communications Team, with the assistance of members of the Community Advisory Board, delivered essential groceries, which were met with heartfelt gratitude from the family. This initiative underscores the strength of community and the difference that collective effort can make. Thank you to everyone involved for their support and generosity.
